Mary Ellen Clifford

Mary Ellen Clifford, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home on January 1, 2026. She was 64 years old.

Mary was born July 3, 1961, in Fort Benning, Georgia to Robert and Karen (Clark) Goodenbour. She loved taking care of children and worked in childcare for many years. Mary was very involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when her sons were growing up. She retired from Polk County, where she worked as a records clerk in the Polk County Courthouse. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a youth bowling coach. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church for many years.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mark Clifford; sons, Josh (Greslu) Clifford and Ben Clifford; grandchildren, Nevaeh Clifford and Jayden Clifford; siblings, Janet (Leon) Lewis, Joseph Goodenbour, Kathleen (Brian) Snow and Tina Goodenbour; her dog, Lola; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will greet friends Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1503 SE 6th Street in Des Moines. Mary will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
