Service Details

Mary Lou (Louise) Christian, 92, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary Lou was born April 23, 1934 to her parents, Fred “Bus” and Frances Oxberger. She lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and love. She was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and cherished her church family and found great joy in faith throughout her life.

For 38 years, Mary Lou built a successful career as a Relator with Iowa Realty, helping countless families find homes and build futures. She was respected for her dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for others. She made many lifelong friends with those she helped buy and sell a home.

Above all else, Mary Lou was devoted to her family. She treasured every moment spent with her loved ones and made it a priority to attend their special events, celebrations, and milestones. She was their biggest supporter and greatest fan. Her sons and grandkids meant the world to her, and she filled their lives with love, encouragement, memories, and laughter.

These last two years were very hard on her as she watched her son Michael fight esophageal cancer, which sadly he lost his fight on April 14th and his partner Richard Powell shortly after.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Jennifer (Mike) Cogdill; great granddaughter, Alexandra Davis; great great grandsons, Jordan Sibert and Shiloh Kernes; great great granddaughter, Journey Sibert; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Douglas (Teresa) Fulton and Michael (Richard Powell) Fulton; parents, Fred “Bus” and Francis Oxberger; brother, Joseph “Joe” O’ Braza; and sister, Donna Vanderlinden.

Mary Lou’s love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but the memories she created and the lives she touched will remain forever in their hearts.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Jennifer Cogdill. She plans to donate to Esophageal cancer research in memory of Mary Lou Christian and Michael Fulton.
