Margarita Márquez Muñoz

Margarita Márquez Muñoz, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on September 17, 2025. She was born September 7, 1940, in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Luis Marquez Robles and María Muñoz Gonzalez.

In January of 1963, Margarita married the love of her life, Jesús Amaya Montalvo, and together they built a beautiful family. Throughout her life, Margarita worked in various roles, including as a primary school teacher, nurse aid, and taught many the art of embroidery at a community center. She enjoyed many things like knitting, tending to her plants, and caring for her home. Above all, she devoted herself to her family—visiting Des Moines often, caring for her grandchildren, and creating a home filled with love.

Margarita was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church. She loved music and dancing, and her joy was evident in every family gathering. For over a decade, she made her home in Des Moines while traveling often to stay connected with her loved ones in Mexico.

She is survived by her children, Raquel, Socorro, Jesus, Yolanda, Virginia, Maria, Luis, Lupe, and Vivian; 31 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Leopoldo, Luis, and Natalia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesús.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 22, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church. Margarita will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in the form of flowers.

Margarita Márquez Amaya, de 85 años, falleció tranquilamente en su hogar el 17 de septiembre de 2025. Nació el 7 de septiembre de 1940 en Villanueva, Zacatecas, México, hija de Luis Marquez Robles y María Muñoz Gonzalez.

En enero de 1963, Margarita se casó con el amor de su vida, Jesús Amaya Montalvo, y juntos formaron una hermosa familia. A lo largo de su vida, Margarita trabajó en diferentes oficios, incluyendo maestra de primaria, auxiliar de enfermería, y dedicó 15 años de su vida a enseñar el arte de bordado en un centro comunitario. Disfrutaba tejer, cuidar de sus plantas y atender su hogar. Sobre todo, se dedicó plenamente a su familia—visitando con frecuencia, cuidando de sus nietos y creando un hogar lleno de amor.

Margarita fue una católica devota y miembra por muchos años de la Parroquia San Judas Tadeo y Nuestra Señora de las Américas. Amaba la música y el baile, y su alegría siempre estuvo presente en cada reunión familiar. Durante más de una década hizo de Des Moines un hogar.

Le sobreviven sus hijos, Raquel, Socorro, Jesús, Yolanda, Virginia, María, Luis, Lupe y Vivían; 31 nietos; 25 bisnietos; y sus hermanos, Leopoldo, Luis y Natalia. Es precedida por la muerte de su amado esposo, Jesús.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el lunes, 22 de septiembre de 2025, de 5:00 a 7:00 p.m. en Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. La Misa de entierro cristiano se celebrará el martes, 23 de septiembre de 2025, a las 11:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de las Américas. Margarita será sepultada en el Cementerio Glendale.
