Margaret "Margie" Conner

Margaret “Margie” Elizabeth Conner, 88, passed away Saturday May 30, 2026 at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines. She was born January 28, 1938 to Larry and Mary (Sydel) Hendrickson in Des Moines.

Margie was a creative and crafty spirit who found joy in making, creating, and helping others. Throughout her life, she embraced many hobbies and talents. She served as the Activities Director at Valley Junction Nursing Home and later at Union Park Nursing Home, where she brought fun, companionship, and meaningful experiences to countless residents.

Margie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working with ceramics, canning vegetables from the garden, and spending time with a good book. Her creativity and determination shone brightly after suffering a stroke in 2018. Refusing to let adversity define her, she taught herself to use her left hand and went on to complete many beautiful Diamond Dotz art projects.

One of Margie’s fondest memories was working as a car hop at Millie’s Drive-In when she was a young woman. She often spoke of that time with a smile, remembering the friendships, fun, and experiences that made it such a special chapter of her life.

Margie’s creativity, resilience, and caring nature will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Margie is survived by her children, Terry Conner, Linda Conner, Kelly Conner, and Gary Conner, Jr.; grandchildren, Mark Conner and Venus Noland; great-grandchildren, Lillie and Allie Conner and Ryan Gorgas; great-great granddaughter, Emmy and one on the way in June; sister, Zella Hinshaw; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Mary Hendrickson; grandson, Robbie Conner; and siblings, Alice, Florence, Mary Rachel, Jenny, Joe, and Ann.

A private interment of her cremains will be held at a later date.
