Mary Louise Gomez

Mary Louise Gomez (92) who presided at Fleur Heights Care Center, 4911 SW 19th Street, Des Moines, Iowa left this beautiful earth on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, to be with her Heavenly family.
Mary was the daughter of Frank and Helen (Rivas) Ortiz, born on August 7, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a homemaker first, then employed by Look Magazine, AMF, and Des Moines Public Schools. She was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye football fan and especially liked Coach Hayden Fry. She loved all sports and playing them with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Frank Gomez, Sr. and Tony Cesar Gomez, Sr., both of Des Moines; a daughter, Carmen Maria Gomez of West Des Moines; plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Anderson of Des Moines; brother, Richard Ortiz, Sr. of Roswell, New Mexico; brother, David Ortiz, Sr. of Forest City, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her loyal companion of 60+ years, Donald E. Wilhite; sister, Lenore Ellis; and her beloved parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, 1271 E 9th Street, Des Moines at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association in memory of our Dear Mother, Mary Louise Gomez.

Our families were Visitation Church parishioners and Vis Grade School students. Mrs. Gomez was a gracious lady, devoted to her faith, and a loving mother. May she rest in peace.
