Lola Hansell

Lola Irene Hansell, 96, passed away March 5, 2024 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Lola was born June 4, 1927 in Linden, Iowa to Phillip and Freda (Hockett) Lively. She graduated from Linden High School and moved from Linden to the Des Moines area at the age of 19. Lola married Robert Hansell in June of 1951. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years. Lola was a fabulous cook. She loved gardening and had a beautiful flower garden and rose bed. She also canned many vegetables from her bountiful vegetable garden.

Lola is survived by her daughter, Carol (Michael) Riley; son, Dick Hansell; grandchildren, Timothy Riley and Mindy (Dan) Wright; a number of great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and her sister, Pearl.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola, Iowa.
