Service Details

Linda Sue Simmons, 74, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.

Linda was born on September 2. 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dale and Margaret “Ilene” (Stephenson) Belieu.

She was a member of the Des Moines Public Housing Board, the South Des Moines Neighborhood Association, and the Healthy Homes Inspector. She was a lead inspector for Polk County Health Department until her retirement in 2011. Her passion was helping those in need and leading them in the right direction.

Her children, Dawn and Brian were the heart of her life. Their accomplishments were more than she expected and they ended up doing things far beyond what she could have ever hoped for. The joy of her life was her granddaughters. She loved them all. She enjoyed watching Ashley, Aren, and Amanda “Moo” play softball and Kassidy with her art projects. Kayla and Kara entered the healthcare profession. Linda was always so proud of all the accomplishments they had made. The love of her life was David Trissell. They experienced many things together that Linda had never done before like Cubs baseball games, kayaking down the Raccoon River, and getting a tattoo. She also got a gun permit to carry but never purchased a gun. David gave her the courage to do things she never could. Linda loved her pets, Yah, Rizzo, and Walle, who were her only companions until she met David.

Linda is survived by her father Dale Belieu, Sr., Sisters Vicky Oliver (Den), Mary Belieu, daughter Dawn Mears, and son Brian Simmons (Wendy). Grandchildren, Ashley Mears, Aren Mull (Rick), Kayla Simmons, Kara Simmons, Amanda “Moo” Mears, Kassidy Simmons, and one great grandson Liam Mears.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret “Ilene” Belieu (Stephenson), brothers Dale “Bud” Belieu Jr., and Leo Belieu, and sister Diana Belieu.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.
