Leonard William Hatfield, 76, passed away December 17, 2023 at Israel Family Hospice House from natural causes surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 27, 1947 Bethesda, Maryland to his parents, Donald and Kathleen (Woosman) Hatfield. Leonard graduated from Dowling High School before enlisting in the United States Army. After the Army he worked at Iowa Lutheran and Methodist Medical Center as a unit clerk for many years and then a bank teller at Wells Fargo followed by a sales associate at Walgreens. Leonard enjoyed watching and listening to sports on the radio. Leonard attended Living Waters Fellowship. Most of all he enjoyed spending his time with his family.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 33 years, Guyneth; children, Bill (Toni) Vanderpool Jr., Billie (Terry) Onstank, and Tara (Aaron) Holder; grandchildren, Bryant (Joy) Vanderpool, Nick (McKayla) Vanderpool, Brenden (Mya) Vanderpool, Breanna (Mason) Stallings, Nathan Vanderpool, Will Vanderpool, Kayla (Justin) Meyer, Sabrena Onstank, Sheilene Zimmerman, Madison Gainuss, Alexis Holder, Ashlynn Holder, and Cassie Gainuss; great grandchildren, Charolette, Whitney, Aspen, Natalie, Aria, Hale, Kara, Evie, Masen, Isabella, Adeline, and Raelynn; brother, David (Roxanne) Hatfield; sister, Mary (Jim) Hall; sister-in-law, Fran Hatfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Austin Gainuss and Sean Zimmerman; and brothers, Alan and Donald Hatfield.
Service will be held Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will occur directly following at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 Northeast 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa.

I met Lennie at his parents house in 1965, so I am left with many, many good memories. May memories also help his family find peace and comfort. Lennie was a good man and has been warmly welcomed by our Lord. Rest in eternal peace.
