Larry Wilber

May 04, 1944 — January 15, 2025

Service Details

Lawrence “Larry” Stephen Wilber went home to be with The Lord on January 15, 2025. He was a resident at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant, receiving care for Parkinson’s Disease.

Larry was born to Ordan and Zita (Comfort) Wilber on May 4th, 1944, in Creston, IA.

A one-room schoolhouse was where Larry started Kindergarten. He later attended and graduated from Creston High school in 1962. In his free time, while in high school, Larry worked on the farm with his dad and brothers.

His love for motorcycles started when he was 14. Even though he was too young for a license to drive, the country roads were no stranger to Larry and welcomed him! Hunting deer was something Larry “tried” back then too.

After graduating high school, he began working for the Levine Co. in Des Moines, producing and installing culvert pipe. He worked there until retirement. Our church has benefitted from Larry’s knowledge of this. A tunnel was installed between this building and the multi-purpose building across the parking lot. Larry did some of the technical work and supervised the installation. It has allowed safety to the children and folks of our congregation.

Larry and Betty enjoyed traveling to South Carolina where their son, Jason and 3 grandchildren live. That vacation was always a highlight. Before Jason was born, camping was a fun time with Gary, his older brother. One Father’s Day, Gary gave Larry an unusual gift! It was for a tandem hang glider flight with an instructor. It was quite an exciting experience for the boys… but a little scary for Betty though!

Larry came to know the Lord as his personal Savior when reading a book on how to be saved. Following his salvation, Larry and Betty received a newsletter written by Pastor Ron and Donna VanderHart. They were drawn to the church to meet Pastor Ron and Donna, where they were ministering, Adelphi Baptist Church. They began attending regularly and soon became faithful members. They were thankful for that newsletter. Adelphi was thankful for them.

Larry is survived by his dear wife, Betty, of 53 years. Sons, Gary (Sarah) of Ankeny. Jason of Greenville, SC, Tony (Alison); and Daughters, Crystal (Chris) and Alycia; grandchildren, Skylar and Erin Wilber, Jacob, Allison and Nathan Wilber; sisters, Marcella (Jack) Waltz, and Rosella Lamb; sister-in-law’s, Carol (Kevin) Jennings, and Susan Brown; brother-in-law, Fred Foudree.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ordan and Zita Wilber; his brothers, Roger and Leonard Wilber’ a granddaughter, Amanda Wilber; and a sister-in-law, Linda Foudree.

Larry will be missed by other family members and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church, 7925 SE Vandalia Dr. Runnells, IA, 50327
