Lloyd L. James
October 02, 1935 — November 17, 2024
Lloyd L. James, age 89, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the V. A. Hospital in Des Moines.
Lloyd was born October 2, 1935, in Russel, Iowa to Walter and Effie James.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a teletype teacher, stationed in Texas. He was later stationed at Red Cliff Air Station in St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada, where he met his wife, Patricia A. Stokes, the love of his life. He held many jobs throughout his life. He worked for a trucking company, primarily dump trucks. He was a salesman working for a time for Sears selling furniture and for many auto companies selling cars, which enabled him to drive across the country. He worked as a furniture mover as well. Lloyd went back to school at age 75, after which he worked for the City of Des Moines. Lloyd was always on the lookout for a new project. He would buy broken down cars just to fix them up. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and wrestling on television, and reading paperback books, as many as three to four a week.
Left to mourn are his daughters Sandra and Cathy, son Ron, and his sister Bertha Webber.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, son Gary, daughter Sharon, sisters Rose Systma, Vinice Goben, and Ida Lewis, brothers Ralph, Arden and Lyle, and his parents Walter and Effie.
Cremation will occur and Lloyd will be laid to rest privately at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date.
