Kenneth L. Phillips, 92, passed away peacefully on April 29, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola, IA.
Ken was born November 14, 1931 to Tekoe and Gladys (Neir) Phillips in Monticello, IA. He served from 1952-1956 with the United States Air Force, including time in Newfoundland. Ken began his career with Banker’s Life & Casualty Company and later worked as an insurance broker in the Des Moines area until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed traveling, swimming and was an avid scuba diver.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Ann Engelbrecht; daughter, Jacqueline (Sean) Roberts; sister, Betty Jean Busching; brother, Ray (Cindy) Phillips; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Austin, and Lauren Roberts; step-sons, Michael (Michelle) Engelbrecht and William Engelbrecht; step-grandchildren, Jessica and Madison Engelbrecht; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Fritzie #3.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Leona Jerrel Phillips (1985) and Dorothy Walton Phillips (2010); son, Kevin Phillips; brother, Lloyd Phillips; and his adored dogs, Fritzie #1 and 2.
Services will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. and visitation prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery later that afternoon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Westkirk Presbyterian Church in loving memory of Ken.
The Engelbrecht and Roberts families would like to extend their deepest thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan Care Center, Indianola, and Hospice of the Midwest for their compassionate care of Ken during his stay.

I am so sorry for your loss Jackie. I loved Kenny. We had so many laughs together over the years. He loved you so much and you were always an amazing daughter to Kenny—my sincerest condolences.
