Kathleen L. Mallory
May 29, 1943 – August 24, 2023
Kathleen Lynn (McGrew) Mallory was born in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, May 29, 1943. She passed in Des Moines on August 24, 2023, at 80 years old.
She is survived by her siblings Sherry and Deanna Thorn, and Butch and Stephanie McGrew. She is also survived by her children Nancy (Ron) Carpenter, Stephen (Cindy) Moore, and Jeff (Dawn) Beener plus 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by many beloved family members including her parents Raymond and Norma McGrew, her children Jeffrey Moore and Mary Bellon (Troy), and her late husband Dan Mallory.
Kathy lived in the moment. Drawing from her confident, genuine personality, she fearlessly navigated the tempests of her life by looking inward for direction. She had a unique way of making everyone feel like her oldest friend. With sparkling eyes and delightful dimples, Kathy upheld a positive attitude with her spirited nature in a life marked by waves of hardship.
Kathy loved horses and good humor. Those closest to her will remember her loud laugh and her blunt disposition, or how she always talked about her favorite horse Starbaby. She cared for the family horses every day with great generosity and enjoyed riding them around the neighborhood with friends when she was young. She was a fabulous, old-fashioned, independent woman who could cook and enjoyed growing her own garden.
Surrounded always by family, friends, a dog or two, and a Mtn Dew, Kathy longed for tranquility for which she never stopped searching. Her family already misses her, for she was a rock for many that will float adrift without her stability.

The obituary for our dear friend is so beautifully written. Thank you for sharing the very essence of Kathy.
We first met and spoke at the window ledge in Miss Dolliver's 7th grade English class. We instantly became fast friends and a wonderful, unwavering friendship endured throughout our lives.
Kathy is that very lovely, and always fun, friend I surely do miss so immensely.
