Kelly Riley
September 18, 1947 — February 01, 2025
Kelly Leroy Riley, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Kelly was born September 18, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa to Glenn and Betty (Hill) Riley. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1968, and was stationed in Germany. Kelly married MaryAnn (O’Connell) on September 26, 1969 and he was able to spend 56 years with the love of his life. He was a romantic at heart. Kelly was a great story teller and loved to share tales of his childhood and time in the Army. He loved to make others laugh and always had the best advice, no matter what the topic was.
Kelly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trips to the casino. He loved working on his ’49 Ford truck. He was proud to teach his kids and grandkids how to fix their own vehicles. Kelly was famous for his Irish stew on St. Patty’s Day. He also loved to share his recipe for his amazing homemade beef and noodles with the family.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The grandkids will always remember his voice saying, “Grandpa’s house, Grandpa’s rules!”
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, MaryAnn Riley; his children, David (Stacey) Riley and Robin (Thersa) Riley; grandchildren, Kelly (Leah), Rebecca, William, Jared, Kelsi, Randey, Brendan, and Ashlynn; six great-grandchildren; sister, Connie; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Glenn; brothers, Danny, Pat, and Mike; sister, Kathy; and infant daughter, Baby Mary Katherine.
A private celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Kelly.

My condolences to the family. So sorry for your loss. Kelly was a great friend and co-worker. He helped me out with building my garage when nobody else showed up. Enjoyed drinking coffee with him on Saturday mornings. Working on his 49 Ford pickup with him. So glad to have known him for 28 years. Good friends like Kelly are hard to come by. He will be missed. Love you Kelly R.I.P.
