Julie Jeanne Ostrander, 56, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, at Kavanaugh House after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer. She was born on August 23, 1969, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to James and Jeralene (Fogelman) Ostrander.

Julie spent 13 years working for the Des Moines Police Department as a parking enforcer—a job she truly loved. Known for her warm smile, quick wit, and kindness to everyone she met, Julie made a lasting impact on her coworkers and the community she served.

Outside of work, Julie cherished time with her family. She loved attending family events, spending time with her kids and grandkids, and celebrating life’s little moments. She was a proud Harry Potter fan and enjoyed shopping at Maurices, never missing a chance to find something fun or stylish.

Julie is survived by her mother, Jeralene (Scott) Caldwell; her children, Ashlie (Kendall Hall) Cleghorn, Amber Cleghorn, Jayce Finnell, and Payton (Blexley) Jones; her brothers, Jeff (Peggy) Ostrander and Joel (Shelby) Ostrander; nephew, Isaac (Breanna) Ostrander; niece, Grace Ostrander; stepbrother, Matt (Corrie) Caldwell; and her beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Olivia, Emerald, Thomas, Opal, Amori, and Otis.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Ostrander, and her stepmother, Shirley.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kavanaugh House in loving memory of Julie.
