Service Details

Joyce Carolyn Nation, age 86, passed away peacefully December 23, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was surrounded by her loved ones singing her favorite hymns. At about 5:00 a.m. she ran into the arms of her Lord and Savior and was welcomed into Heaven by a host of family and friends.

Joyce was born May 15, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa to Phillip and Nellie (Hinds) Armintrout. She attended East High School in Des Moines. She married the love of her life, Glenn, on December 18, 1954. In the early years of their marriage, Joyce was a homemaker and doting mother. Together, she and Glenn raised five children and instilled in them a strong legacy of faith in God. She was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Des Moines for 53 years. Joyce worked for Taylor Industries and then Hussmann Corporation in Urbandale for almost 20 years. She loved her job and the people she worked with. She retired from Hussmann in 2018 at the young age of 80.

Joyce liked to garden and canned her own home-grown vegetables. She loved camping with her family, fishing, and hiking; Brown’s Woods being her favorite spot. She enjoyed bowling with the Saturday Fun bunch at Fair Lanes, playing cribbage and especially video games with her grandchildren. She was a great cook and baker. Her sugar cookies and strawberry rhubarb pie were some of her specialties. Joyce will be remembered for many things, but the love she had for her family surpasses them all.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 70 years Glenn Nation, son Doug Nation of West Des Moines, daughters Denise (Mike) Hoopes, Cyndee (Craig) Robb, Dianne (Dave) James of Des Moines, daughter-in-law Kellie Nation of Boone, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Nellie Armintrout, mother and father-in-law Fred and Millie Nation, brothers Norman and Robert Armintrout, sisters Karen Houge and Joan Smith, and daughter-in-law Cindy Nation, and most recently, her oldest son, Steve Nation.
