John Lee Ennis

John Lee Ennis, age 78, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

John was born August 14, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa to Clifford and Ramona Ennis. In his early adult years, John served his country in the United States Army. When he returned, he began his career as a welder at John Deere, where he retired and was a proud member of the Local UAW450.

John loved music. He had very eclectic tastes, although he mainly enjoyed jazz, rock, and blues. He was a long-time member of the Central Iowa Blues Society. His favorite concert venue was Hoyt Sherman Place, where he enjoyed many concerts.

John also loved Bullmastiff dogs. When one dog would pass away, he would buy another pup. All 3 different dogs he owned were named “Buck”.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Julie) Ennis; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Judith (Rex) Ingle and Teresa Ennis; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ramona Ennis; son, Kevin Ennis; and sister, Janet Robbins.

Memorial contributions may be made the Arbor Day Foundation in memory of John.
