Joanne Engle
February 09, 1949 — July 15, 2024
Joanne Engle, 75, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024.
Joanne was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. On August 15, 1970, she married the love of her life, James Engle. To this union their two children were born, Amy and Robert. Along with raising two children she pursued a career in cosmetology working as a beautician throughout her entire life. Later in life, she worked at Target for 11 years. Between the two she created many special connections and friendships throughout the years. She was ever grateful for those friendships and having the opportunity to put smiles on everyone’s faces.
Joanne enjoyed reading, traveling, crafting, and scrapbooking. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family whom she loved deeply – her husband, children, grandchildren, parents and siblings.
Joanne is survived by her children Amy Engle and Robert (Jennifer) Engle; grandchildren Shelbi Engle (Justin Bruce), Hailey Engle and Jordan (Sheldon) Ellis; great-granddaughter Eleanor Ellis; sister Sue (Frank) Moyer; sisters-in-law Joan Arnett and Gertrude Phillips; and many other loving relatives and special friends.
Joanne is preceded in death by her loving husband James Engle, her mother Roberta Johnson, and brother Jim Arnett.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Suncrest Hospice in loving memory of Joanne.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for a visitation with funeral services following at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Westown Parkway; 3601 Westown Pkwy, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266. Thinking of Joanne's family in this very difficult time. Although we didn't know Joanne, we heard much about her through her loving and caring sister, Sue. We are praying for healing and peace for the family and comfort in knowing that Joanne is in the arms of her Savior, Jesus, and loving them from afar.

My sincere sympathy to Sue and to Joanne’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, plus a lifetime of friends, on the loss of a dear person. Sue and I were best friends as children and through teen years so I was a frequent visitor/member of the Johnson/Arnett home. I cherish those memories and can still smile and laugh about some of them, such as one of Joanne’s first car (quite possibly a red Chevy convertible that had a clutch?). Love you Sue and Joanne. Thank you for the special childhood and teen-year memories.
