Service Details

Joann Lynn (Gross) Edwards, 69, passed away after a long and brave battle from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with the service at 11:00 a.m. and the visitation prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Joann was born April 14, 1955 to Harold and Marguerite (Terrell) Gross in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised on the west side of Des Moines where she attended Grant Elementary and Callanan Jr. High. Her family moved to Dallas County where she graduated as the salutatorian of her class from Van Meter High School. She attended Grandview College but later transferred to Drake University where she majored in Pharmacy.

Joann met and married the love of her life, Terry Edwards, and they moved to West Des Moines, Iowa. She was retired from Marzetti Foods.
Joann was an excellent cook and received most of her delicious recipes from the various cooking shows that she loved to watch. She enjoyed taking photos, playing tennis, and watching reruns of old favorite television programs. She especially looked forward to her and Terry’s annual two -week trip to Estes Park where they were immersed in the beautiful scenery. Joann was a very kind and gentle soul. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Terry Edwards; siblings, Norman (Gerda) Gross, Janeen (Sheldon) Woodson, and Paul (Bobbie) Gross; stepsons, Terry Lee Edwards, and Russell Edwards; step-grandchildren, Kinzie and Lydia Edwards; nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Tiffany) Gross and Michelle Gadbury; great-nieces and nephews, Devonte Veasley, Itayzia Houston, Matthew Gadbury, and Tinley Gross; great-great-niece, Jhene Veasley; and a host of other beloved family members.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Daniel Gross; nephew, Jason Veasley; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staffs from Glen Oaks Care Center, Karen Acres Health Care Center, and SunCrest Hospice for the loving care that was provided to Joann.
