Jo Ann Beckett, 87 passed away January 8, 2024 at Taylor Hospice House.
She was born August 27, 1936 in Creston, Iowa to Earl and Verda Wright. Jo Ann moved to Des Moines, Iowa at the age of six. Her family lived on Chesterfield, Maple Street, and later on Des Moines Street. At the age of twenty she met and married Eldon L. Beckett. They were married on September 2, 1956 and moved to their life long home on Arthur Avenue. They were also members at First Presbyterian Church.
Jo Ann worked at Look Magazine and Des Moines Public Library before becoming a stay at home mom to her two daughters, Karen and Bonnie. After her children were a little older, Jo Ann went on to work at Bankers Trust.
She loved working crossword puzzles, watching game shows on tv, and playing games on her cell phone. Jo Ann also enjoyed music and dancing. She loved children especially her grandchildren and would play with them so much that the neighborhood kids would often knock on her door and ask her to play.
Jo Ann is survived by her sister, Lorraine Tufts; daughters, Karen Moreno, and Bonnie Weber; her granddaughters, Angela Moreno, and Amber (Andrew) Goulette; and her great grandson, Nelson Moreno-Salazar.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eldon Beckett; grandson, Jacob Weber; mother, Verda Clark; step father, Earl Clark; father, Earl Wright; brothers, Vern Wright and Carl Wright; sisters, Dorothy Curry, Mary White, and Lela Jeffries.
Services will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will occur directly following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One Northeast 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa.

Aunt Jo Ann was a very special lady! Loved going to the state/county fairs and parades with her and my mother (Jo Ann's sister, Mary). She loved life and having fun. I will always cherish those memories.
