Heaven gained one more electrician to keep the stars lit with the passing of Jimmy Dale Lewis on Friday.

Jimmy Dale Lewis, 86, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026 after fighting dementia for four years.

He was born May 29, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to his parents James A. Lewis and Ida Darline Bowling. Jimmy attended North High School and joined IBEW local 347 as an apprentice in 1962. He proudly worked as a union electrician for 41 years and was a member of the union for 63 years. In 1956 he married Beverly Huisman and together they had three beautiful children, Kim, James, and Michael.

Jim was devoted father and loved being with his family. He cherished the family’s annual vacation to Holiday Island, Arkansas for a fun filled week with the kids and later on the grandkids and great grandkids. Jim was an avid golfer, fisherman, and New Years Eve bowler with the Strong family. He had the ability to make everything fun. Jim loved to have a good time and he will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Beverly; children, Kim, James, and Michael; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Jean (Darrell) Dray; and other loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Ministers or DMARC Food Pantry.
