Service Details

Jesse Lloyd Hilsabeck, 40, of Polk City, Iowa died March 16, 2024 as a result of injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. His wishes to be an organ donor were carried out at MercyOne in Des Moines Iowa.

Jesse was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was a graduate of Benton Community Senior High School, class of 2002. He enjoyed playing sports throughout high school and continued on as a college athlete, playing football for Central College in Pella, Iowa. He majored in Sociology and minored in Criminology, earning his bachelors degree in 2006. While there, he worked for the Pella Police Department and continued his career in public safety as 911 Dispatcher for Westcom Emergency Communications Center for nearly 18 years, where he has been recognized for saving 9 lives, amongst countless other accolades.

As a man of faith, Jesse was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City, where he regularly attended with his two children, Eva and Zane. His confirmation verse was John 3:16, which was also the date that he joined his Lord in heaven, bringing much comfort to those of us who mourn his loss. Jesse was an amazing Dad to his two children, Eva and Zane. Whether it was practicing reading, helping with Catechism, or simply getting down on the floor and playing, he was always there. He planned fun vacations and outings to create memories with his children that they will hold onto forever. Jesse was at all of their activities and sporting events and truly their biggest fan. If the weather was nice, you could expect to see him show up on a Harley!

Riding motorcycle was one of his greatest passions in life, modeled and taught to him by his own father, KC Hilsabeck. They enjoyed numerous motorcycle trips together spanning thousands of miles, including many trips to Sturgis; the first of which when he was 12 and then riding his own motorcycle alongside his dad at age 16. It was more than a hobby, it was a way of life; one which he was beginning to instill in his own children by taking them on rides around town, constantly detailing and improving his bike, and teaching Zane to ride a dirt bike. He shared these riding experiences with many close friends, his significant other, and sometimes complete strangers who became friends at any random stop on the open road. Jesse was always the life of the party, a hilarious storyteller, and could impress anyone with his wit and charm. He was a reliable coworker, a constant friend, and showed his love for others through innumerable acts of service; always willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need.

Jesse is survived by two children who were his entire world, Eva Allen and Zane Hilsabeck; his person and partner in life, Teske Vance, and her children Gabe Drake and Aiyana Drake; Aunt Kimberly (Brian) Mantz of Belle Plaine; Aunt Kris Salzmann (Kevin Goranson) of Vinton; cousins Abbi (Jon) Garling, Brandi (Matt) Delveau, and Stevi Salzmann (D.J. Stander); and many close friends who were like family to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Veronica Goad; his father and best friend, KC Hilsabeck; uncle Randy Salzmann; both sets of maternal and paternal grandparents, including grandmother, Betty Hilsabeck Callaway who was like a mother to him.
