James Alexander Weir, 75, passed away surrounded by family on April 3, 2025. Born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 28, 1950, he was the only child of Alex and Jeanette Weir.

Jim and I worked together for many years at the Polk County Courthouse. He was cordial to all those he met there and yet stood at the ready to protect those of us who served the public in that building. He was level-headed, kind and knew his duty to the public was service, not just law enforcement. Thank you, Jim, for your service. Judge Blink

Sergeant Weir was my supervisor for several years at the Polk County Jail. He was one of only a handful of Sergeants that I truly appreciated. He was a kind, honest, fair man and most of all Genuine!
When making his rounds in the pods, he would always chat not only about work, but about his family, his kids, and his cars! He really knew his cars!! Praying for all the Weir family for your peace and comfort.. RIP Sgt. Weir 🙏

I had the privilege of working with Jim at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Jim displayed a caring and kind spirit to his friends, public and fellow colleagues. I appreciated his spirit and empathy as we served the public. I trust to see him again one day soon at The Eastern Gate. May God richly bless his family, loved ones and those he impacted.🙏🏼👮🏽♀️

For a short period of time when we were young (in grade school) Jim and I lived very close to
each other. He lived on East 27th between Lyon and Maple. I lived in the 2700 block of Lyon.
Later in life or lives would intersect again. He joined the sheriff's department and I joined the
police department. We would run into each other quite frequently while working in those capacities.
Jim was a great guy.
