James Paul Qualls

James Paul Qualls, 38, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, due to a fatal motorcycle accident in Osceola, Iowa.
James was born June 18, 1986 at 5:03 p.m. to Kristine (Woodward) Guthrie and Paul Davis in Denver, Colorado.
James graduated from Walnut Creek High School in West Des Moines in 2004. James was in the Army Reserves for 6 years (2010 - 2016) as well as 2 years of monthly weekends for an additional 2 years. James fought in the IRAQ War and was given a Purple Heart. After the army, James had a variety of jobs. He was a bartender, worked in management and the last few years he worked in construction.
James enjoyed riding his 2014 orange and black Harley Davidson, which he loved. He enjoyed riding to clear his head, and to help him with his PTSD and to feel free. He was the life of the party and loved hanging out with his many close friends. James was a caring and compassionate son, brother and friend. He was a very giving person.
James was married 3 times. He was married to Jessica which produced a son, Jaden Paul Qualls, who was born on October 18, 2006. He then married Ashley, which produced no children. James had his 2nd son Rylee Carter Peuker on August 19, 2012. He was in the final stages of divorce from his 3rd wife.
He is survived by his mother, Kristine (Mark) Guthrie; his father, Paul Davis; his sons, Jaden (17) and Rylee (12); his sister, Brandi Erdman who has three children, Mason, Mylie and Krymson; stepsisters, Jill Guthrie, and Danielle (Dan) Guthrie who have two children, Ahbah and Lilly; his maternal grandmother, Pamela Still; his paternal grandmother, Caroline Davis; aunts, Kimberly Hutchison and Karen Davis; uncles, Pat Woodward and Wade Woodward; and many cousins.
James was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jerry Woodward and paternal grandfather, Bill Davis.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family to help with funeral costs and for caring for his two sons.
