James Michael Clark
June 10, 1957 — August 27, 2024
James Michael Clark (Jim) bid a final farewell to this life on the afternoon of August 27, 2024. While he may have preferred to linger a little, life had other plans. If he had the chance, Jim would have undoubtedly left us with one last clever remark, perhaps something like, "Thanks for the cheese! Catch y’all later."
Jim was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on June 10, 1957. His childhood memories were shaped in first Marion and then Vinton, Iowa, where he spent his most formative years before moving to Algona, where he completed his high school education. It was while still in high school that Jim met the love of his life, Paula Bauer. They married and were blessed with two children—Josh and Amy.
Except for a brief adventure in Texas, Jim and Paula spent their lives together in Iowa, with the last 37 years rooted in West Des Moines. Iowa was where he built his life, surrounded by family and friends who cherished him deeply.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Paula; his children, Amy and Josh (wife Joy); his treasured granddaughter, Elizabeth; and his brother Robert Clark II.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Clark and Delorus Ann DeWald Clark; and two brothers, David and Michael Clark.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to LifeServe Blood Center at www.lifeservebloodcenter.org in loving memory of Jim.
Jim's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a deep connection to the people and places that made his life rich. He also loved his solitude and spent many hours on the water in a kayak. Jim was a deep thinker and had a heart for justice. He will be remembered for his quick wit (sarcasm), his dedication to family, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Dear Paula, Amy, Josh, Joy and Elizabeth
I’m so truly sorry for your loss. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Paula I can’t imagine the pain of losing Jim. I admired Jim’s intelligence, carpentry skills, crossword puzzle ability, sense of humor, starting his own successful business, and that he overcame his injury and excelled . Jim was a good man who was dedicated to his family. I will be keeping you and the kids in my prayers and will be thinking of you always. Love Mark, Julie, Austin, Katie & Anna

Paula and family - I was so saddened to learn of Jim's passing - saying that he met the love of his life in Paula Bauer couldn't be a truer statement not to mention best friends - there are no words to express the void you will all feel in your lives so I can only say I am very sorry for your loss and rely on the many memories you have

Jim was my cousin. We spent a lot of time together growing up. Fun times with dear memories even for a girl in a family of brothers and boy cousins. RIP cousin. ❤️ My sympathies to Bob, Paula and family.
