Service Details

Des Moines- Jane Marie (Jones) Viggers, “Jonesie” passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Her sudden passing was due to complications from surgery. Jane was born in Winterset, Iowa on July 8, 1962, the daughter of William and Phyllis (Moore) Jones. She entered the world a determined and enigmatic personality, strong enough to take on any challenge but with a compassionate heart that could charm anyone.

A proud graduate of East High School in Des Moines, Jane continued her education at DMACC earning a degree in Accounting and Business Management. She began her career at Kemin Industries, but found a natural affinity for real estate, leading her to become a long-term Broker Associate with Coldwell Banker. She was most recently with Legacy of Iowa LPT. She was also a member of the Polk County Assessor Board of Review, serving as Chair for several sessions.

She was recognized in the Real Estate Industry as “Jonesie”, but for her family, Jane was wife, mom, aunt, sister, cousin, grandma, and yes, a great-grandma (“Mimi”) too. She will be lovingly remembered as the caretaker to many.

On July 12, 1980, Jane was united in marriage to Lee Viggers, saying “I chose him because no man could ever love me more”. She reciprocated that love and their romance spanned nearly forty-five years. As a couple, they enjoyed nature, travel, a good story, the Iowa State Fair, and huge gatherings with family and friends.

Jane was the “energizer bunny” in a 5’4” frame who had a mission to get things done. She attended more family events, be it football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, or baseball games, dance, weddings or funerals, and she had a skill for being in three different places all at the same time… Jane was pure magic.

Jane’s superpower was the ability to create a home wherever she was, and everyone was welcome to join and stay. Her creative mind was always churning ideas for how spaces and places could be improved, and she was never without a project. She hosted legendary parties, but if you stayed a bit too long, you might find yourself on a ladder, with a paintbrush in hand or waist-deep in Lake Ponderosa installing a dock. She loved as hard as she worked, sending everyone off with a big hug and “love ya”.

She was the embodiment of honesty, integrity, and love. Jane’s commitment to her family was unparalleled. Jane is survived by her devoted husband Lee, sons John (Samantha) and Jim (Teresa) Viggers, grandchildren Jacob (Maggie) Viggers, Amanda (Jarred) Mumm, Austin Viggers, and Dalton (Mariah) Viggers, and great grandchildren Warren, Brant, and Meriden Viggers and Cassidy Mumm. She is also survived by her sister Trudy (Richard) Tait, twin and best friend Jim (Joni) Jones, nephews J.R. (Amanda) Tait and Joshua (Jennifer) Tait, nieces Mackenzie (Trent) Aldrich and Mackayla Jones, grandnieces Montanna Tait, Faith Tait, and Liliana Aldrich. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Jane will be deeply missed by everyone privileged to know her. Her legacy of generosity, kindness, and devotion to family and friends will continue to inspire all those she leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held at Copper Creek Golf Club and Event Center, 4825 Copper Creek Drive, Pleasant Hill, Iowa 50327 on April 19, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or the Food Bank of Iowa in memory of Jane.
