Jerry J. Torrence

Jerry James Torrence, age 68, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jerry was born November 24, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jared and Lenore Torrence. He proudly served in the United States Army earning the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and multiple marksmanship badges. Jerry also served in the United States Navy with Assault Craft Unit One as an electrical/mechanical equipment repairman.

Jerry went on to work at Tone’s Spices in Ankeny until his retirement. He was the caregiver for his father and his brother, Duane. Jerry had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed computer activities and reading. He loved Bible Study and worked on the Hickman Road Church of Christ Grounds Committee, where he was a member. He will be lovingly remembered for faithfully bringing Oreos to the church meals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jared and Lenore Torrence, and brother, Ronald Torrence. Jerry’s one surviving brother, Duane Torrence, died 16 days after he did. Before Duane, passed, he wanted everyone to know his brother, Jerry, was a “good guy”.

There will be a joint celebration of life gathering for Jerry and Duane at Hickman Road Church of Christ, 5217 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50310, at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Hickman Road Church of Christ in loving memory of Jerry.
