Jack Lee Tharp, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in the comfort of his own home with his wife by his side.

Jack was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Marbel and Edith (Cornell) Tharp.

He was a man of many talents and passions. He loved fishing, working on tractors and could fix just about anything that was broken, earning a reputation for being incredibly handy. His love for horses and cattle was evident in the care he took with them, and he took great pride in his work at Woodford. He had been married to Bonnie since 1997, Jack was a devoted husband. He also had a knack for fixing radios and electronics, and he loved spending time outside, enjoying nature. A proud graduate, he received his GED from East High School.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lee Tharp; children, Lonnie Tharp, Kelly (Jeff) Kellar, Andrew (Lisa) Kilgore; sister, Shirley Ann Tharp; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tharp; and numerous grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; children, Kimberly Busey and Jack Tharp, Jr.; and siblings, Clara (Bud) Prock, Betty (Fred) Ransford, Richard Tharp, Hazel Pauline Tharp, Beverly Terry, Robert Tharp, Marbel Tharp, Jr., and Jimmy (Joyce) Tharp.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to MercyOne Hospice in loving memory of Jack.
