James “JT” Edward Taylor III was born September 18, 2008, in Des Moines, Iowa.

He attended East High School. He excelled in track and basketball. James loved playing video games with his friends. He was an extraordinary young man, full of life, laughter, and love. His infectious smile and silly antics could light up any room. James was deeply compassionate and always eager to help others, showing empathy beyond his years. He was a joy to be around, constantly making those around him laugh and feel loved.

At just 15 years old, James was taken tragically from this life in a devastating car crash on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, that has left his family shattered by the loss and struggling to come to terms with the reality that their beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend is no longer with us.

James is survived by his aunt and guardian, Evelyn “Evy” Stewart; his father, James Edward Taylor, Jr.; mother, Carlina Lee Evans; brothers and sisters, Nevaeh, Chancear, Amazion, Jodizzi, Jozari, and Jai'mikel Taylor; grandparents, Sissy Stewart, James Taylor, Sr., Carlos Evans, and Dana Throwbridge; cousins, Nyleve, Breaonna, Nadia, Shyleah, Kashawn, Ira Hicks III, Sabin Hicks, Raniyah Taylor, Jamiya Doby, Major Doby, London Taylor, and Rosella Taylor, Jr.; aunts, Carmel Stewart, Rosella Taylor, Tyneka Taylor, and Jamie Taylor; and a host of other extended family and friends. He leaves behind a heartbroken family and countless friends who will forever cherish the memories and moments shared with him. James touched so many lives with his kindness and vibrant spirit, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. We want to remember James for the incredible person he was and the joy he brought into our lives.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Carmel Hicks and Dollie Dembinski; and grandfather, Ira Hicks, Sr.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by a repass.
