Joel Robertson

Joel Wesley Robertson of Chanhassen, Minnesota passed away Monday, September 25 of cancer at his home at age 53.

Joel was born October 6, 1969 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The first of three sons of Ruth and Dennis Robertson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1988. He attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO and graduated in 1992 with an accounting degree.

Joel met his life partner, Janene Brooks, in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. They moved to Minnesota in 1997. They had two sons, Drew 15 and Derek 11. He enjoyed their activities and helped coaching them.

Joel was an avid New York Yankee’s fan. He and Janene attended several of their World Series. He also was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeye’s football team and attended many of their bowl games.

Joel is survived by his life partner, Janene Brooks; sons, Drew and Derek; mother and stepdad, Ruth and Jerry Schumacher of Breda, Iowa; brothers, Stacy (Allyson) of Florida and Bryce of Colorado; stepbrother, Nick Schumacher of Michigan; uncle, Steve and family of Iowa; nephew, Jordan; and niece, Michaela. Joel is also survived by Janene’s parents, her three brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Joel was preceded in death by his father Dennis Robertson and grandparents Max and Wanda Robertson and William and Wilna Crawford and aunts and uncles. Also, by Janene’s brother Jamey Brooks.

The family will greet friends Monday, October 2, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Joel will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
