Joe Dennis Lucas

Joe Dennis Lucas, 68, passed away on August 25, 2023 at his home.

Joe was born July 5, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa to Joe and Shirley (Forkner) Motsinger.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973. He was a member of OPCMIA Local 538 as a union plasterer.

Joe enjoyed fishing, camping, attending gun shows, playing cards and bowling. He was an avid Hawkeye and Cowboys fan. He was kind, loving, giving, and a great listener who was a servant of God. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events but above all, he loved spending time with his family and reading the Word.

Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Shirley Lucas; daughters, Katie (Danny) Choate and Crystal (Randy Banks) Grout; son, Joe (Amanda) Lucas; siblings, Neil Jay (Kalyn) Lucas, James (Rhonda) Lucas, Rosemary Lucas, Kathy Fast, Jolene Bahri, and Deann Schipper; grandchildren, Daniel, Thomas, Casey, Christian, Jeanie, Hannah, Whitney (Chase), Hayden, Mason, and Sawyer; great-grandchild, Hayes and one on the way; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Motsinger; step-father, James F. Lucas; and sister, JoAnn Severino.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Southtown Pentecostal Assembly, 510 E Rose Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, 50315.
