Julie A. Jones

Julie A. Jones, age 65, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospital.

Julie was born January 13, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard Bird and Sharon Cain. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1976. Julie moved to Sacramento, CA in 1980, and worked for the State of California for seven years, returning to Des Moines in 1987. She went on to earn her degree in Business Administration from DMACC in 1989. She worked for the State of Iowa for 31 years prior to her retirement in 2016.

Julie had one daughter, Jennifer Roth. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Julie enjoyed genealogy, crosswords, and reading books. She loved her family and attended all of her grandkids’ activities and made many memories traveling with her daughter and grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Roth; grandchildren, Chase Elliott, Mikayla Reed, and Cade Reed; stepfather, Larry Williams; siblings, Lori (Jeff) Wolfe of Des Moines, LeeAnn (Kevin) Jones of Des Moines, Larry “Two” (Kelly) Williams of Des Moines, Kim (Tim) Lacey of Amarillo, TX, and JoAnn Slater of Palmetto, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Bird and Sharon Williams; and grandparents, Paul and Cecil Cain and Ersie and Myrtle Bird.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, also at Hamilton’s, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Maxwell, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
