Life long Southside resident, Haroletta Blackledge died at the age of 99 on March 19, 2024. She was born on October 1, 1924 to Harold and Lillian Hunt.

Haroletta graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. She worked at Bell Telephone as a long distance operator. On May 8, 1943 Haroletta married Virgil Blackledge, Jr. and on January 4, 1945 their daughter, Lana Sue was born. In August of 1946, Haroletta was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She remained faithful and zealous in teaching bible truths to others. In 1960, Haroletta and Virgil opened a furniture store at SW 9th and Rose with the name, Teri and Virg’s Furniture Southside.

Haroletta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Mickey May; grandson, Caleb Christensen; granddaughters, Lisa (Tim) Tungett, Mindi (Frank) Froah, and Amy (Mike) Kirgis; great-grandchildren, Cassondra (Derek) Hyde, Cory (Jenna) Cox, Henry Christensen, and Luke Christensen; four great-great-grandsons, Channing, Jude, Jenson and Corbyn; her sister, Lillian Riccelli; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Blackledge, Jr.; her parents, five sisters, and two brothers.

Family will be greeting friends on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation and service will both be located at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines, Iowa 50315.

A special acknowledgement to the staff at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab for the care they provided to Haroletta "Teri".
