Haroldine "Dena" West
February 02, 1953 — October 13, 2023
On February 2, 1953, Shorty and Virginia Law completed their family with the birth of Haroldine “Dena” Kae Law. She saw the face of Jesus on October 13, 2023.
Growing up on the southside of Des Moines, many knew her as “Peach”. She graduated from Lincoln High School and attended fashion school in Omaha. She was employed at CDS in Des Moines for many years and then in the Waukee School District.
As an accomplished seamstress many were blessed with her gifts. She loved gardening and always had beautiful flowers. Dena always had a kind word, a smile and a wonderful sense of humor. She was a great listener and friend to many. More than anything else in life, Dena loved her faith, family, kids, grandkids, friends and dogs, Rascal and Harper. Even though her body failed her in recent years, she still made every effort to see and connect with the people she loved and has continued to give the gift of life as an organ donor.
In 1974 Dena married Scott Hartman and they welcomed children, Doug and Jessica. She later married Bruce Culver and is currently married to Larry West.
Dena is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Douglas; daughter, Jessica (Bob) Williams; sister, Rosie (Rick) Craig; stepdaughter, Amanda (Lance) Shuey; stepson, Jeremy West; grandchildren, Tyler, Madi and Morgan Hartman; Ian, Antonia, Elizabeth, Isabel and Will Shuey; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Denny (Joyce) Law.
While we know she was met by many who have gone before her, words are not enough to describe how much we will miss her.
The family will greet friends Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

My heart goes out to her family. Dena was a great mother in law to me all the way to the end of my marriage. I did talk to her here and there but I'm sadden that I never had the courage to visit her when I was visiting home. I know she is at peace now and with her loved ones above.
