Service Details

Harry A. Lowery was born on April 26, 1929, and died on August 4, 2024.

Harry was born to Harry and Flora (Campbell) Lowery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the age of 2 he moved with his parents, brother Van and sister Winfred to Dallas Coal Camp. There he spent the earlier years of his life until the age of 18. In 1980, he married Donna Cooley Shade, and inherited three children - Denise, Rodney, and Michelle Shade. Prior to that, Harry had three children of his own - Joyce King, Denise (Gary) Hopkins, and H.D. (Janine) Lowery. Harry was employed by Des Moines Foundry. He also was an entrepreneur running his own trucking company. Harry finished out his career at the Des Moines Firestone Plant. He retired from there after working for 30 years. He was then convinced to move on to the Three Ten Union Hall. He then officially retired at the age of 78.

Harry and his wife loved to travel around the world. Some of Harry’s most favorite places to visit were Spain, Alaska, Mexico, and cruise trips. He enjoyed traveling with his best friends Bill and Annetta Woolery. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing (especially to Minnesota with his brothers and nephews), bowling, camping, and traveling in his RV. He loved watching cowboy movies and listening to soul music. Some of his accomplishments were being President of the Rolling Wheels RV Club of Des Moines (at the height of their existence, Harry increased the membership to over 40 plus units) and he was also a previous member of Des Moines Road Runners bowling group. He also bowled in several bowling leagues around Des Moines and attended the National Bowling Congress in various states.

Harry was an extremely hard worker but he was also a loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many. He was always willing to help others in a time of need and he always kept everyone laughing with his numerous amounts of stories and jokes. Harry accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Ross at the First Baptist Church in Perry, Iowa.

Harry is survived by his loving wife Donna Lowery of 44 years, all three of his children and three step children, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, brother Richard Lowery, several nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends near and far. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers LaVan, Frank, Jack, Bill, and Clifford Lowery, his sisters Minnie Jackson, Flora (Mae) Wagner, and Winfred Propps, and his granddaughter Chekesha M. Clark. Harry will be missed dearly not only by his family but all the lives he’s touched while here on earth.
