Gerald (Jerry) John Anderson, 69, passed away peacefully, with his sons at his side, on March 22, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jerry was born October 22, 1955 the beloved son of Palmer and Emma Anderson in Denver, Colorado. The family moved to Cresco, Iowa where Jerry grew up and attended Crestwood High School distinguishing himself as a star heavyweight wrestler. He continued his education and wrestling career at Drake University, where he excelled athletically before graduating in 1977.

Jerry was married to Doris Marie Lienhard. Though they later divorced, their union blessed them with two wonderful sons who remained the center of Jerry's life.

Jerry was a passionate world traveler, always seeking out new adventures and experiences. He had a particular fondness for Ukraine, where he made multiple trips over the years, forming lasting friendships and developing a deep appreciation for the country's culture, history, and people. He was the life of the party, lighting up every room with his infectious energy and charm. He loved meeting new people, who quickly became friends, and sharing stories that left everyone laughing and smiling.

Jerry was never one to conform or follow the crowd. He embraced life on his own terms, unapologetically pursuing what brought him joy and fulfillment. Whether it was embarking on a spontaneous trip to a place he'd never been, or simply striking up a conversation with a stranger, he lived with a fearless sense of freedom. He loved to cook and share the food he made with family and friends, bringing everyone together over a good meal. He cherished every moment spent with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play sports and taking them on little adventures, creating memories they will hold onto forever.

Jerry is survived by his two sons, John (Shauna) Anderson and their children, Tristan and Nora and Joel (Heather) Anderson and their children, Hayden and Kendall; and his sister, Beverly (Curtis) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A service to honor Jerry's life will be held at a later date where family and friends will be invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable man.
