Gary William Stroud, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at his home in Valley View Village in Des Moines. His family knows that he is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and will rejoice in glory with Him in eternity.

Gary was born July 26, 1940, in Coon Rapids, Iowa to William Ansel and Dorothy (Knight) Stroud. He graduated from East Des Moines High School in 1959. Later that same year, Gary married the love of his life, Vicki Diane (Anderson), and together they raised their family in the Des Moines area. Gary served as the Director of Operations for Metro Waste Authority, where he made significant contributions to the organization’s success, before retiring in 1996. He was a member and Past Master of East Gate Masonic Lodge #630.

Gary had a deep love for his family and a passion for camping, fishing, dogs, and attending his children's concerts, recitals, and ballgames. In later years, he shared these same joys with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Stroud; daughter, Lori (Greg) Grant; son, David (Nikki) Stroud; grandsons, Zachary Grant, Joshua Grant, Austin (Kelly) Stroud, Ethan Stroud, and Noah Stroud; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Nancy Kalina, and other extended family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Lois Ann and James Lattimer.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery after the funeral.

The family would like to acknowledge Jackie, Skylar and Katie from Suncrest Hospice and Kim, Sherry, Verlynn and Kristy from Valley View for their exceptional love and care shown to dad and our family during and after his last days with us.
