Felicia Mullin
January 03, 1931 — December 07, 2023
Felicia “Timy” Leon Mullin, 92, passed away on December 7, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Felicia was born on January 3, 1931, in Valley Junction, Iowa (West Des Moines). She was the youngest of seven children born to Feliciana Perez and Nicanor Leon. She graduated from Valley High School where she loved learning and was a basketball star. After working briefly for the Iowa AP and traveling the state, she entered the convent, in the order of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary. She earned a B.A. from Marycrest College and became a beloved and respected teacher and principal in Iowa and Minnesota schools.
In 1970, Felicia married Denny Mullin. They lived in Des Moines, where they raised their daughter, Michaela. Felicia worked in varied industries and nonprofits with great community impact, such as Door of Faith Men’s Mission, Civil Rights Commission of Iowa, Young Women’s Resource Center, and NCA/EFR, from which she retired.
Felicia was passionate about social justice and education, equal rights for women and people of color. She worked tirelessly for systemic change at all levels, and was selected as state delegate for the National Women’s Conference of 1977, in Houston. When Denny’s health declined, she became a devoted caregiver.
Volunteerism was very important to her, and over the years, she served as a Girl Scout leader, Foster Grandparent, visitor and patient advocate at Methodist Hospital, and facilitated caregiver support groups through the Alzheimer’s Association.
Felicia is survived by her daughter, Michaela (William), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, and husband.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Luncheon will follow the service.

So glad Judy, Martha and I came to visitation. It was great to chat.
Although I didn't know your mom, all of the pictures and the video help me to feel a wonderful connection. It was a wonderful display over her lifetime! So many smiles and so much love in them.
I filled Ben in on our chat. Sheena Thomas was over yesterday afternoon and wasn't aware of your mother's passing. She said she would have loved to have been there.
Ben recalled the guy up the street that may have been a republican. He used to play with his son. Not recalling the
name - Shilling? ....

Dear Michaela,
I am so sorry for the loss of your loving mother. I knew her as a Support Group Facilitator and she used to visit my classroom when I was teaching. We always had great conversations. She was a gem! Her many passions were so worthy of her volunteer work. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the service today. My condolences to you and your family. You are in my heart and prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of her life.
Sincerely, Beth Bishop, Clive, Iowa

Felecia volunteered at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and sometimes I was Lucky enough to volunteer on the same day. She was passionate about what she did and saw the value of each person she encountered. Always smiling and easy to talk with. My sympathy to the family.
