Evelyn D. Karns

Evelyn was born March 23, 1934 to Marion and Farrie (Farris) Thomas in Centerville, Iowa. She was a long–time resident of the Des Moines area and retired from MidAmerican Energy Company.

Evelyn enjoyed caring for her family. She enjoyed baking and tending to her flower gardens. She was an excellent seamstress even sewing all her daughter’s wedding party dresses including the flower girls!

She especially loved her grandchildren. In her last years, they were the most important reason for her to live.

She is survived by her children, Don (Robin) Karns, Deb (Jeff) Martin; grandchildren, Jen (Russ) Flug, Matt (Kelly) Martin, Kaydee Karns, and Allison (Lance) Reinbolz; and five great-grandchildren, Will, Cam, Josh, Claire and Tristan; sisters, Carol Gilliam, Joyce Perry and Jean Kent; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ilene Thomas, and husband Willie Karns.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February, 17, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa with funeral services at 12:00 p.m.
