Eugene Glenn Wheels, age 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Sunnyview Care Center.

Eugene was born December 1, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Martha (Williams) Wheels. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for fourteen years, earning the rank of Sergeant. Eugene was an active member of VFW Post # 9662. He enjoyed the company of his fellow members and was grateful for his friend, Jim Wettestad. Eugene enjoyed athletics and like watching football, basketball, and track and field events. Every day for the past two decades he loved drinking coffee, and laughing and joking with his brothers.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Raynelle Honeycutt-Wheels; daughter, Donnette Barber; grandchildren, Brittany, Dorrian, Whitley, DreSean, DeVaughn, and Ariante; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kayleigha, AJ, Angel, Nyeemah, Miles, Omari, Maryanna, Anaise, ZaNiya, and Cairo; brother, Byron (Crystal) Wheels; brother-in-law, Charles Manning; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Preach” and Martha Wheels; daughter, Dawnise Williams; grandson, Stashaun Brown; sisters, Brenda Manning, Quancidine Wheels-Smith, Phyllis Wheels, Vera Wheels-Kemp, and Mariruth Wheels; brother, Robert Don Elton Wheels; brother-in-law, Harold Kemp; and sister-in-law, Barbara Wheels.

As a proud Vietnam Veteran, an interment ceremony with military honors will be held for Eugene at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003 with Pastor James Moody officiating.
