Elaine Charlotte Hughes

Elaine Charlotte Hughes, 77, passed away on January 10, 2025.

Elaine was born on October 6, 1947, to Ethel Morris and Clayton Schuster.

Elaine spent her whole life on the Southside of Des Moines. She married Richard Hughes after he came back from Vietnam, and they started their loving family together. Elaine dedicated her life to her family and to taking care of those around her. She loved playing cards, going camping, and family traditions. She found joy in caring for her family and grandsons.

Elaine is survived by husband of 55 years, Richard Hughes; daughters, Chrystal (Donovan) Filkins and Shannon (Craig) Hilleson; grandchildren, Blake Goodale, Nathan (Reilly) Goodale, Jackson Hilleson and Evan Hilleson; great-granddaughter, Magnolia Goodale.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Dee and Ruth Ann.

Family will be greeting friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial at Avon Cemetery.
