Elaine Kay Braley

Elaine D. Braley, 78, died January 18, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home in Johnston, Iowa.

Elaine was born August 16, 1945 to Carrol and Roberta Dahlstrom in Billings, MT. She received a BA in English from Gordon College in Wenham, MA and her MA in Pastoral Counselling from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA. Elaine was married to Richard Braley in 1967 and from this union two children were born. Elaine retired as Director of Case Management, Department of Mental Health, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed bird watching, travelling and reading. She was an excellent baker and everyone loved to hear her wonderful laugh. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Richard C. Braley; children, Hugh C. (Jennie) Braley and Sarah B. (Jason) Wigen; grandchildren; Grace K. Wigen and Benjamin C. Wigen; and sisters, Linda Stone, Lois Essells, and Carolyn Bickford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Robert Dahlstrom.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Avenue in Des Moines, IA with visitation one hour prior.
