Erick Parker

Erick Lamont Parker, also affectionately known as “Uncle Buck”, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 13th, 2024.

Erick was born July 18th, 1962, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa to Erick and Marjorie Parker. Erick attended Cassidy Elementary, Harding Middle School and was a graduate of Des Moines Tech High.

He was an athlete in his younger years and participated in football and track & field. He also had a talent in music and attended The Center of Professional Music School, where he played the drums and competed winning as first runner up and received many trophies.

Erick had a love for cars, dogs, and could fix just about anything.

Erick’s career had longevity, he worked 18 years as the groundskeeper for the City of Des Moines Park & Rec. He continued his work even during retirement, by beautifying his neighbors’ yards on the east side. If Erick wasn’t on his bike he was riding on his lawn mower.

Erick is survived by his mother and father Erick and Marjorie Parker of Longview, TX, his four children Danielle Smith of Des Moines, IA, Tiffany Smith of Des Moines, IA, Johneric Smith of Des Moines, IA, and Tynesha Haynes (Jarron) of Des Moines, IA, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his sister Danita Parker of Longview, TX, his two nephews Ryan Anderson and Jordan Anderson of Des Moines, IA, and a host of extended loving family members and friends.

Erick was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his grandson Dabryn Smith.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
