Edward "Ed" H. Denton
April 14, 1956 — March 22, 2025
Edward “Ed” Harris Denton, age 68, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Ed was born April 14, 1956, in Marvell, Arkansas.
He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and traveling, especially back home to Arkansas. Ed treasured the friendships he made with his co-workers at Iowa Methodist Medical Center where he was a Surgical Technician for many years. In his down time, you could always find Ed at his favorite hangout spot, Vickie’s Bar, as he loved more than anything his “family” from there.
Ed had a strong faith and loved God. He always had a knack for making people laugh. Ed loved absolutely everyone, never knew an enemy or a stranger, and his heart was big and pure. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his beloved brothers and his precious mother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Denton; his daughters: Kim (Jerome) Sims, Jackie Franklin, Linda (James) Wynter, and Ruby (Duane) Denton; his grandchildren: Janaecia, Kiawyna, Trevon, Sierra, Dominique, Pierra, Breeyanna, Tayronce, Destini, Janae, Victoria, Vashara, Yuri Jr., and Danial Jr.; his great-grandchildren: Jashawn, Zoey, Zaria, Zalani, Kimani, Ellis, Zariya, Damiya, Jahynia, Caidyn, Darrius, DeAirra, DeAngelo, Quran, Khyree, Abriella, Yuri III, Journi and Jayden. He is also survived by his siblings: Bobby, Robert, Larry, Horace, Johnny Mac, Linda Faye, and Brenda Ann; his nieces and nephews: Carol, Kandra, Demetriea, Brenda, Herman, Nikki, Deamonte, Tampa, and Michelle; special cousins: Denise, Calathia, Julia, and Ava; and a host of other loving relatives and close friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Denton; his brothers: Robert Lawrence, Jerry Birth, and Lee L. Lawrence; his sister, Jackie Gines; and his nephew, Jonathan Gines.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery.
