Ellen Ann Boston

Ellen Ann Boston, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Trinity Center at Luther Park. She was born the daughter of Eleanor (DeVan) Boston and Charles Boston Sr., on September 28, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ellen attended St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines and graduated with the Class of 1960. After graduation, she attended Drake University and later began working for Principal for 17 years. During her retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Des Moines School District. Ellen’s faith was very important to her and she was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and watching the news. She would spend countless hours sitting in the sunlight on her screened in porch enjoying her day. Ellen was a voracious reader and had a vast selection of books at her home and spent a lot of time at the library. She also loved the arts and had a passion for painting with water colors, especially using vivid colors. Ellen will be remembered as a strong, tenacious woman who loved to DIY everything around the house all on her own. Above all, she loved her family and she will be deeply missed by many.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter Samantha Watkins Jackson and her husband Lyndon, grandchildren Chudney Green and Ashlin Watkins, brother Thomas Boston, many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and Charles Boston Sr., sisters Mary Jo Boston-Flannigan and Maria Jean Hawkins, and her brother Charles Boston Jr.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
