Duane Stewart

Duane Stewart, of Runnells, died on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Duane was born in Bondurant, Iowa on June 6, 1940. The family then moved to Altoona where he participated in football and track. He graduated in 1959 from Altoona High School.
Duane entered the Air Force in 1960, serving in Texas, California, Wake Island Hawaii and Johnston Island in the Pacific Ocean. Immediately after his service he began his plumbing career. Duane enjoyed his 50 years with Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33.

On June 27, 1969, Duane married his sweetheart, Gina Bos. Two children were born into this union, Robert and Jodie. Duane worked hard on their farm, as well as continually remodeling their home. Together, Duane and Gina treasured many years of camping and traveling south for the winter.

Duane always said his life began at 40 when he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. He enjoyed sharing his faith with co-workers and friends. He also loved joking around with anyone, and no one laughed louder at his jokes than he did.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gina; son, Robert (Krista) Stewart; daughter, Jodie (Alan) Grau; 6 beautiful granddaughters, Reagan (Josh) Neff, Sarah (Charlie) Hunkele, Nicole (Cody) Brown, Macie, Josie, and Madison; 1 great grandson, Theodore; two great granddaughters, Ava and Kinsley; his siblings, Dorthy Phillips, Donald (Barb) Stewart, and Janice (Kevin) Clemens; and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was proceeded in death by his parents, Orie and Lucy Stewart; and brother, James Stewart.

Family will greet friends on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1503 SE 6th Street in Des Moines. Memorial service will take place the following day Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Altoona Cemetery in Altoona.
