Duane King

Duane Lee King, 60, passed away March 20, 2026 surrounded by his family.

He was born January 15, 1966 in Dekalb, Illinois to his parents William and Sharon King. Duane was light-hearted, hardworking, and patient. He had an infectious wit and was deeply devoted to his wife and family; he surrounded them with unconditional love.

He enjoyed NASCAR, reading, fishing, and bowling. Most of all he enjoyed joking around with his grandchildren. Duane was affectionately known as Papa to his 13 grandchildren and he cherished them deeply.

Duane is survived by his wife, Janet King; children, Sheila, Chris (Jeanice), Melissa, and Curtis (Mariah); 13 grandchildren; siblings, Sherri Cross and Kenny King; one niece; two nephews; and god daughter, Royalle Wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William King and Sharon Coats.

Family will greet friends Friday, April 3, 2026 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Duane will be laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery, 524 NW 54th Avenue in Des Moines immediately following.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family in loving memory of Duane King.
