Douglas Bernard Oelmann, 76, passed away on December 15, 2023. He was born on August 25, 1947 in Eldora, IA to Bernard and Elma (Abbas) Oelmann.
Doug enjoyed working on his acreage, gardening, fishing, camping, watching Iowa State football, and spending time with family.
Doug graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agronomy. He was a Soil Scientist and Assistant State Soil Scientist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (formally the Soil Conservation Service) with the federal government for over 40 years. He enjoyed working on his soil site evaluation business which he had for several years.
Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cheri; their sons Jason Oelmann (Andrew Greenberg) of Des Moines, IA and Matthew Oelmann (Francisca Rivas) of Mitchellville, IA. He is also survived by his three children from his previous marriage, Jeff (Leigh) Oelmann of Auburn, AL, and their daughters, Janie (Garret) Barr, Anna Oelmann, and Allie Oelmann; Jean Oelmann of St. Paul, MN, and her daughter Hannah Fischer; Jennifer Beckett (Travis Accord) of What Cheer, IA, and her children Brad Beckett, Brady Beckett, Bryce Beckett (his daughter Cecelia and his fiancé Shyanna Chenet), and Jazmine Beckett.
He is also survived by his brothers, David (Deb) Oelmann of Dows, IA and Hollis (Kris) Oelmann of Ames, IA.
He is preceded in death by his father Bernard, mother Elma Raisch of Hampton, IA, and his brother Steve of Ackley, IA.
No services are planned at this time. A family service will be held this spring at Hazel Green Cemetery near his family farms in Ackley, IA. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.

I found out today about Doug's passing. I worked with Doug in the State Office and the Wetlands Reserve Team (WRT) office in Indianola. I enjoyed working with him and appreciated his sense of humor and technical expertise. You are all in my thoughts. Take care. Lisa
