Dorothy Boyle

Dorothy “Dot” Boyle, 94, of Des Moines, passed away May 27, 2026, at her home.

She was born October 26, 1931 in Pearl River, New York, to William Smellegar and Theresa Allstad. Dot graduated from Pearl River Highschool. She married Robert Boyle in May of 1953, and in 1955 their daughter Deb was born. In 1969, the family moved to Cody, Wyoming. Several years later they took residence at Wapiti Ranger Station in Shoshone National Forest. While living in Wapiti, Dot started Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops who enjoyed hiking and camping. Dot received her Girl Scouts 50 year membership pin.

Dot was an avid quilter and everyone she loved received one from her. After her husband passed, she moved to Des Moines to live near her daughter.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and her siblings, Bill, Arlene, Alvina, and Bert.

She is survived by her daughter, Deb (Don) Price; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.

The family will be greeting friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines.
