Donald "Don" Van Ginkel

Donald “Don” Van Ginkel, 69, passed away September 14, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center.
Don was born July 28, 1954 in Des Moines to Harold and Jean (Grey) Van Ginkel. He graduated from Lincoln High School. Don retired from the U.S. Postal service after 32 years as a mail sorter. He enjoyed listening to folk rock music, doing New York Times crosswords, and reading books.
Don is survived by his step brother, Terry Yakish, niece, Angela “Annie” Krogmeier, great niece, Ally Krogmeier and great nephew, Danny Cowden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers Dick and Johnny and sister Marla.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 1 pm to 2 pm with the funeral service to follow at 2 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Don will be laid to rest at Elm Grove Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of Dons passing. Worked many years with him at the BMC post office. Excellent worker and always so pleasant to talk to. Prayers to the family.

I never met Donnie, but heard a lot about him. I'm sure he is so happy to be reunited with his parents, brother's, sister, nephews, and grandparents. Our hearts go out to his neice, Angela and her family. You're in our thoughts prayers.
