Donald A. Rich

Donald A. Rich 98, passed away October 22, 2024. He was born June 16, 1926 to Anthony and Marian Rich in Duluth, Minnesota, and grew up there, graduating from Central High School in 1943. He attended Duluth State Teachers College and Iowa State University, graduating from Iowa State in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
He served in the Navy for two years and was honorably discharged in June 1946.
He was employed five years by Iowa Sheet Metal Contractors (now the Waldinger Corporation) and five years by Beling Engineering Consultants. For forty years he was self-employed as a consultant to architects in the fields of mechanical and electrical systems for buildings, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.
Donald attended Reach Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, and his sister, Barbara Stewart. He is survived by his three children, Jonathan (Susan) Rich, Craig (Nancy) Rich, and Diane (Rod) Valdivia; six grandchildren, Emily (Tony) Doglio, Megan Rich, Tyler (Jennifer) Rich, Joseph Rich, Nicole Valdivia and Taylor Valdivia; two great-grandchildren, Louisa Doglio and Nathaniel Doglio; and brother-in-law, William Hacker.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa, with family greeting their guests following the service.

Uncle Don was a great man. He was the guy who always brought his camera for family functions. His quiet demeanor was always a great attribute and everyone in the Brown family loved him. He will be missed.
